Broads Beat is a Norfolk Constabulary initiative patrolling the rivers of the Norfolk broads. The unit is unique in the Constabulary in that it is part sponsored by various commercial partners who offer either money or alternatively a service towards the running costs. It is, we believe, the longest running joint Police / Commercial partnership in the country.
Broads Beat has been running in this format since 1995 and has completed it's fourteenth season in 2009. The season runs from 1st April to 31st October every year and is staffed by two officers who are supported by Community Support Officers and Special Constables as well.
The team will deal with any river type of situation ranging from anti-social behaviour to theft and everything in between. The unit operate a 6.5m RIB which is trailer based and therefore mobile enough to be launched from any number slipways that the team have access to around the river network.
We also work very closely with the Broads Authority and can often be found on joint patrol with the BA Rangers. The Rangers are out and about all over the Broads and act as many extra pairs of eyes, with Ranger's evidence and observations having led to many successful resolutions over the years.
When the season ends, the two regular officers revert to response policing but can still be contacted via either email or their mobile phones and are happy to discuss any issue.
