Most smoker Friendly pub
The New Inn is privately owned and is the oldest pub in Horning (despite it's name). It is situated in the middle of the village The garden has been landscaped with a decking area under cover and heated. The Thai teak furniture and planted palms give the garden a Mediterranean feel. There is an amusement arcade for the kids (big & little). For boaters there is a water point, Electric hook-up(Fee). Mooring space can be reserved when booking a meal. The pub won the award for "Most smoker friendly pub" in 2008 - 2012 for it's outstanding smoking area.
The New Inn had a notable licensee in Leslie H Platten, whose son followed in his father's footsteps and joined the 6th Dragoon Guards and fought in the Boer War in Africa. He was highly decorated and when he returned home from the campaign the entire village celebrated his safe return with a celebration party held at The New Inn.
A special thanksgiving service was hosted by the Bishop of Norwich the following Sunday in Horning church.
Mr Arthur Powley who lived in Horning for close to 60 years built boats at the bottom of the New Inn garden. Most notably Sir Earnest Martin's Thames Houseboat, the "La Rose", built about 1909 They were on exhibition at the Royal Show, Norwich the following year. Mr Powley also built one of the earliest Bermuda rigged yachts seen on the Broads, 25ft half decked "Majestic"
