The Rushcutters is cosy, full of charm, with old original beams and a wonderful roaring fire on cold days. Originally the called The Three Tuns it featured a `Priest's Hole' and a hidden staircase. It was known as Hinsby's Gardens during the early 1800's and as Cattermoles Gardens in the 1840's. In 1879 it became Thorpe Gardens
Landlord Barnabas Buck was convicted on 20th April 1885 of keeping open during prohibited hours. and was fined with 16/- costs & licence endorsed
The building was damaged during World War II by enemy action in 1942 and again in 1944.
Alterations by Steward & Patteson were completed at the end of March 1965. In the 1970's it was renamed The Boat & Bottle following a major conversion (popular with big pubs at the time) turning it from multi roomed to one big open plan theme pub In 1985 it was renamed The Rushcutter's and underwent a major £700,000 refurb in 1998
